This is a biosphere that me and my group made this biosphere which can support a group of people to live in space if ever needed because it has food, water, escape pods, first aid, toilet, social places and boy and girl dormitory.

Reflection:

This was not easy because it was hard to get what the panther (Khan) was not the main character so we didn't get to know too much about about Khan so that section was quite hard but the rest was easy.

This is my ship from a image on google of a cardboard pirate ship which we made from paper with glue, a pencil, scissors, rubber, ruler and protractor.

It was really hard because we didn't measure correctly sometimes, it was easy to make the shapes because we already planned it out, next time I will work on doing better measurements.

Diary Post 8

We have had lot's of amazing activities in term four like, building biospheres with big boxes, a brain break game our student teacher (Miss Terry) told us about called Toilet Flush Tag, Athletics (I failed to get into any) also we have done a narrative about a book we have been reading called between two ends.

In Between Two Ends, there is a boy called Yeats who goes into the world of 1001 Arabian Nights to rescue a person called Shari who went into the story 20 years ago, he meets many friends and enemies.

For Toilet Flush Tag what we do is tag each other (we are all taggers) and when we are tagged we make our hands like a scissor than another person (somebody who didn't tag you) has to come to you than push your hands down like he's flushing a toilet, than you go up and back in the game.

Athletics... I don't really like athletics but we had to participate so I did, I failed easily on softball throw and sprints, I did not bad on long jump but high jump... I like high jump the most but I failed... I am usually really good but for some reason I jumped too early and got out first which was really disappointing.

Reflection:
This was really hard at some parts and really easy at different parts of the writing.
The hard part was thinking of the "show" part of the plan, altogether I think I did quite well for this activity but next time I think I can do better by trying to remember events that happened so it's easier to retell the story.

Diary Post 7

Finally it is term 3 so now we will finally do things like camp!

Camp is the best thing that's going to happen, probably, and all the others are gonna end like speeches and cross country but camp is only 3 days (-_-)

What we have been doing is reading a new book called "A Wrinkle In Time", we have been doing activity's about the book too! For example we had to write a group document on what the main character so far (Meg) was like and we used a venn diagram to compare us to Meg (her name was not Meg, Meg was just short for her name).

We have been doing SDL (Student directed learning) in a new way by using "My Student Dashboard" our teacher (Mrs Graham)  sets us tasks with a set a time limit, sees when we finished it and checks it. So far we have done well using "My Student Dashboard" and figured out how to make groups and submit our work.

We have been practicing cross country every Tuesday and Thursday so we could get better and better, the best people at cross country get to go compete against other schools best runners and she which school will come out top. I think I might have a good chance at getting to be able to compete against other schools because I am a fast runner (kinda).

Another one of the best things is getting japanese buddies, I am a buddy but I don't know when they will come so all we can do is wait...

Diary Post 6

Around these times it's almost the end of the term 2 and I am quite happy that I don't have to do anymore work so now we had to do lots of things like planning speeches, reading the green book and doing art about the solar system.

For the art solar system we have been paper mashe which was when we get a item of the shape then glue lots of ripped strips of paper on to it to make a thing, my group is making Mars.

I am really looking forward reading the green book because so far it is really cool, basically a group of refugees go to a new planet because earth was gonna get destroyed but when they land on the new planet they face a new problem...

Speeches... (Sad face) one of my least favorite things, so for speeches I am gonna write about older siblings cause my brother is really annoying cause he always deletes my games and maybe he will delete some games in the weekends... Who knows.

Holiday AD

Last term we made ad of what we want to do for the holidays and this is the one me and Cameron.
We used a help from a "special" happy customer a.k.a a person in our class, it took us a while cause there was a technical difficulty where we couldn't record but it was fixed.

Dairy Post 5

In the last couple of weeks we have been doing lots of new things a agamographs, netball, SDL-Self Directed Learning, Terrific Tuesday and last but not least Agamographs.

Terrific Tuesday was when we chose a activity from a bunch of different ones and we chose what we wanted the most and what we wanted the least, I chose board games as my first choice and I got it! The First activity we did was a game called sequence which we played for the first 2 weeks, on the third week we played monopoly which was really fun because some people was really poor from buying too much stuff that they couldn't afford anything else so when a person landed on one of the best squares and they couldn't afford it. I just paied for it instead so they could have the building and I also didn't take the money back and just let them keep it. I missed week 4 because I was a netball field day which was really fun and for the rest of the weeks I played twister with some other people (friends) which was really funny.

Agamographs was when we made two pictures that was the opposite of the other one (except Quinn) who had a plus sign meaning combining to things and he made a Narwhal! He did unicorn plus Dolphin which made a Narwhal, anyway in the end both pictures had something similar or the same. If you looked at it from the right it would look like a picture, for example cookies and if you looked on the other side you might see a 800g bag of flour. I drew both the flour and cookies was to make my one. It was really fun because some of the art was funny, wierd and just plain original!  People thought mine was funny so I was pleased with that.

I think week nine or week eight is the last day of terrific Tuesday which is sad. So anyway it's almost school holidays at least, maybe something fun will happen ^_^ .

Grid Value Portrait

WAL about the values in art -> how light or dark something is.
We were inspired by Chuck Close who made lots of grid value arts, he had a very unlucky childhood, his father died when Chuck was 11 and his mother developed breast cancer.

First we did a "thing" called taking a line for a walk which was when we did lots of squiggles making lots of circles and stuff like that than we added patterns in them by spreading the patterns apart or close together. We also made it look bigger or smaller depending on the size of the patterns.

Than we took a picture and printed them out black and white, after that we used our ruler to rule out squares on the picture which we would use on a enlarged paper.

The last part was we had to do was to think of some patterns or take a.k.a borrow some patterns from someone else to use for our pictures and we have to use it to fill some/lot's of squares with patterns forming a picture of the photo we took.

It was tricky to do the body parts like the eyes, ears and noes.
It was easy to put patterns in the blank spaces since there were no parts of the body in the way.

Math Skillz- Finding A Percentage Of A Number

Our group have been learning finding the percentages of a number and we have learnt what to do.

The of the questions are:

12% of 80                       120% of 46

27% of 64                       138% of 57

82% of 205                     270% of 80


12% of 80 is 9.6             120% of 46 is 55.2

27% of 64 is 17.28          138% of 57 is 78.66

82% of 205 is 168.1          270 of 80 is 216


Basically its the percentage takeaway the number like 64% of 90 is 57.6 because its 64 x 0.90 = 57.6. But if you have a question like 48% of 291 = 48 x 2.91 which is 139.68 so it's actually really easy.

Diary Post 4

Now that we are in term 2 we have stopped our art and stuff like that and we are now doing a new inquiry which is space!  On our inquiry launch day we watched Wall-E which was about the humans living in outer space with the robots cleaning up on earth since it was too dirty, but the plan failed and the humans on the ship had no idea, Until Wall-E met EVE and both of them got the humans back to start a new life.

On the chrome-books (another kind of computer) we have been sent a presentation with sentences saying what we had to do and so far i have done the first 2 and I am now doing the third one.  The one I am doing now is writing a list of facts about a planet and I chose Jupiter as the planet I will be writing facts about.

In math we will be doing stuff about fractions due to the fact that most of the class is not that confident at doing fractions, so me and my friend cameron were playing a game recommended by a website our teacher sent us until the teacher said me and cameron to join the math skills group where they teach themselves which means I get a promotion yay!

We used to have Youth-Town to teach us skills like teamwork and play games with us for P.E but now they have stopped and moved to doing the juniors P.E teaching them some skills so I joined the school netball team and at lunchtime play I ether play netball, basketball or rarely cops and robbers.

Next week is week 3 for term 2 and we will probably do more of the art project which I forgot the name of what it was and we will do more work and stuff like that so I think that without Youth-Town brain breaks will be a lot funner so yeah it's not that fun anymore.

Term 1 Week 10

This week is the second to last week of school until the school holidays which is great but since term 1 is gonna end soon we have lots of work to finish off but we get to start a new art called Pixel Art where we make a drawing in google sheets. Right now we are gonna make a new background for our blogs and we will be the first in Elmpark history to make our own background.

Last week the whole year 6 got to have an easter egg hunt and it was really fun but hard.  Our team didn't win but we got a prize for being one of the best teams.  We got mini easter but the prizes for the 1st 2nd and 3rd were 10 times better, the first team to finsh got a big bar of chocolate and box of big easter eggs, second place got one whole box of big easter egg and the 3rd team got half a box of the big easter eggs.

We are now also having lots and lots of tests like reading, math and writing tests and so far we have almost finished the reading test but I still haven't gotten tested yet though.  But i'll eventually get tested.

This week was the last week that Youthtown was with us because next week is the last week so we don't have Youthtown and on term 2 Youthtown is with the juniors so all we have eft with brain breaks.  At least we don't have to do learning at brain breaks. :)

The 100 Word Challenge

We are learning to choose words carefully.
So we could only use 100 words and write a story at the same time which is very hard because some words can't be added because it might exceed the 100 words limit.

The Maori Genderoles

We are learning how to write a explanation writing and we are writing about the Maori gender roles because we were reading a book called whale rider by NZ person called Witi Ihimaera this was hard because I didn't know much about the Maori culture.

Next time I need to use more better words instead of just using one interesting word which is quandary.

Term 1 Week 7

Now almost 2/3 weeks into term 1 and there has been lots going on, music, art, buddy class, handwriting and lots more!

For buddy class we have a year 3 and we have been doing gardening also we have been looking for plants to grow in the garden for us to eat and to sell to raise school funds to buy more equipment for the school and to go on more school trips.

For PE (physical education) we have been having some awesome people come to our school from Youthtown to teach us games and to teach us some skills like teamwork for games like capture the flag and they have taught us lots of new games like capture the ball.  Capture the ball is basically each team gets some balls than once we start we throw the ball to try to hit somebody but we can't run with the ball and if we hit them they go into our base/prison than somebody from there team has to rescue them or else if there whole team gets captured its game over for there team.

Handwriting is a pain in the head because you are supposed to write neatly to get better and I have three marks in total to say that I have achieved those goals and the one I ticked (only 1) was not marked by the teacher and the ones around it was marked so now I am working on sloping yay...

Art isn't as bad as handwriting though its hard and requires lots of concentration its really hard.  For art we are making a self portrait made of symbols light and dark by making symbols close and wide away.

I am looking forward to the next time we do youthtown because its really fun and its a break from work YAY also we are playing capture the ball again which is really fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

Identifying BIAS

This was hard because I didn't know what BIAS was until we had a discussion and Mrs Graham sent us a presentation about BIAS.
The thing we were looking for is when Koro Apirana was being BIAS against Kahu.
I choose this part (Green highlighted part) because it looks like Koro Apirana really didn't like Kahu.
It was easy to find this part for BIAS because Koro was being mean to Kahu so I could tell he didn't like Kahu.

Class Peer Mediator

Reflection

This is the Peer Mediator video we made about social skills as a Peer Mediator, we did this so even though we were not Peer Mediators we could still help people who were disagreeing at playtime when there isn't Peer Mediators.

Diary Post 1

On the first few weeks we had lot's of fun stuff like Youthtown which is at group of people who come and teach us skills like teamwork, working with others and cooperation etc, we played capture the flag which is teamwork so we work with each others to get the other teams ball to your side to gain 1 point, the people who came to our school as Mega-tron-(Dominic) and B-rad(Brad)

We also had lot's of other things like counselors who are the vice-leaders of the school and also there are head boy and head girl who are the leaders plus there are house captains because we have 4 teams Rimu, Rata, Kauri and Matai, each time we do something good than we get house points which we add to a chart.  After a while the house captains announce the winners depending on which house has the most points and they are not the real big houses the are basically just names on shields so all that basically means is which house has the most well behaved children they will gain more point.

For math we had a really complicated problem with 23 problems, it was Cryptarithms , there are letters which equal more letters and you had to change them into a number with the same numbers used on the letters and each question had a different number represented with letters so if A was 2 B can't be the same so it could be all the way from 0-9 except 2 because it was already chosen so B could be 6  than the next question will be A=5 and B=1 and C =7, there are three letters in total and the more you get correct the harder it gets until it gets to the end or until it gets to a stop for a bit than go because it's so hard.

The next thing we did was reading, we read a bit of the Whale Rider who was wrote by a New Zealander called Witi Ihimaera, Whale Rider is a maori legend about Kahutia Te Rangi and the story has multiple versions such as Kahutia Te Rangi  and his tribe built a canoe than sailed until the land was out of sight than a mean brother called Rua Tapu uncovered a hole in the canoe that he made the day before, and everyone drowned except Kahutia Te Rangi and Rua Tapu.
